Sarah S
Sarah is a 5 and a half year old with an amazing story. On December 9th, 2006, she was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. By May 2007, Sarah had undergone 3 surgeries in order to remove the dangerous growth. From there, she endured eight rounds of chemotherapy in order to eradicate any further threat. By October 2007, this brave little girl was sent to Bloorview Kids Rehab in order to recover.
Sarah was paralyzed on her right side and unable to speak for the first few weeks. The rehab team of professionals, including physio, speech and occupational therapists created an intensive program for Sarah to complete. She was weak, and used a wheelchair to get around. After several weeks, her speech had improved, her occupational therapist had switched her dominant hand to the left hand, and she was starting to walk with a brace, and a cane or a helping hand.
Since February 2008, Sarah has enjoyed being home. She still enjoys playing with her friends, her princess Barbies, and dancing. Hopefully, her school will be able to connect her with the support that she'll need to continue her recovery with more therapies. Sarah and her family look forward to brighter days of better health as each day unfolds. |
