Papayaw
At the age of 15, Papayaw sustained an injury on Halloween night that put him into a coma for two weeks. After regaining consciousness, he slowly regained his strength and remained in hospital for one week further. He received care from the Bloorview Kids Rehab and has been given strengthening exercises to do on his own to maximize his recovery.
Previously, Papayaw was a very active teenager who enjoyed a variety of sports and school events, including soccer and martial arts.
Now at the age of 16, he notices his fatigue is greater than before; he has to work harder at school; his emotions aren't as even, nor his thoughts as clear and ordered as they used to be.
Looking to the future, there are still assessments to be made and more doctors to be seen to identify the full implication of Papayaw's injuries. It is doubtless there will be a good number of professionals that will be key players in his recovery, both physically and psychologically.
