Alex

Alex was having seizures at least twenty times a day because of his epilepsy from the time he was 6 months old. They occurred both during the day and the night. By the time he was five, the seizures had lessened to twice at night time. At the age of 7.5 years old , Alex went into Sick Kids hospital and had surgery to put an end to his seizures. He was then sent to Bloorview Kids Rehab for a further eight weeks.

Since the surgery, he hasn't had any seizures and his quality of life has improved greatly. It's been six months since his surgery, and Alex is an active little boy who enjoys sports like basketball, badminton, video games, air hockey as well as music — especially the drums and guitar! At school, he has to work hard to pay attention. In fact, the school has assigned him an educational assistant for half of everyday. They are also trying to pursue physiotherapy sessions, as this would be helpful for him too.

Looking to the future, Alex is going to remain on his medication and continue to be monitored by his doctors for the next two years as this will identify the effectiveness of his surgery.
